Berliner Illustrirte

Sonderheft 1976 — Schaut auf diese Stadt/Behold this City

The Sonderheft 1976 of the Berliner Illustrirte, is all about promoting West-Berlin.

Only positive aspects are revealed and the main goal is to make people come to the most "innovative, trendy" city in Europe.

But as soon as reading the editorial we realize that this is the american dream coming true…

In 1976, the US where celebrating the bicentennial of their independence, the first Concorde flew, Mao Zedong died, and Stallone played the first Rocky…

A part from adverts, most content of the magazine is translated into english. Probably not many americans read the Berliner Illustrirte at that time, but who stood on the wall singing "I've been looking for Freedom" in '89?

He was indeed an american-superstar in Germany in the 80ies!
